Day 1: Discover Milan, a blend of culture, shopping, and relaxation
Your first day in Milan begins with a visit to the Duomo of Milan, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world. Be sure to take a trip to the rooftop for a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding Alps. After this introduction to Milan's history, head to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a historic shopping gallery where you'll find luxury boutiques and iconic cafés.
For lunch, make your way to the artistic Brera district, an enchanting neighborhood full of narrow, cobbled streets, art galleries, and vibrant restaurants. Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many trattorias, where you can sample traditional Milanese dishes such as risotto alla Milanese or cotoletta alla Milanese. Afterward, take time to explore the Pinacoteca di Brera, a must-visit art museum showcasing masterpieces by Italian artists like Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian.
In the afternoon, take a short walk to the Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco). This grand fortress is home to several museums, including the Museum of Ancient Art and the Civic Museum of Archaeology. Don’t miss Michelangelo's unfinished Pietà Rondanini, one of the highlights of the castle. After exploring the castle, head to Parco Sempione, the large park behind the castle, perfect for a relaxing stroll or a quick rest in the beautiful greenery.
For those interested in contemporary art, the nearby Triennale di Milano offers exhibitions on design, architecture, and visual arts. You can also visit the Pirelli HangarBicocca, an art space showcasing large-scale contemporary works. Later, relax by the Navigli canals, a trendy area perfect for an aperitivo, Milan’s pre-dinner tradition. Enjoy a drink by the water before choosing from the many lively restaurants for dinner.
Finish your evening with a visit to the Colonne di San Lorenzo, a peaceful spot with ancient Roman columns and the Basilica di San Lorenzo nearby, beautifully lit up at night.
Day 2: Escape to Lake Como, a natural paradise near Milan
On the second day, head to Lake Como, located just an hour by train from Milan. Upon arrival in Como, you’ll be instantly enchanted by the lake's beauty and the surrounding mountains. Start by taking a walk along the lakeside to admire the elegant villas and lush gardens. You can also take a boat tour to explore neighboring villages. One of the most famous villages, Bellagio, is known as the "Pearl of the Lake" thanks to its refined architecture and spectacular views. Be sure to enjoy lunch by the water, with an amazing view of the lake.
After lunch, take the funicular to Brunate, a small village perched on a hill. From here, you’ll get a breathtaking view of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. If you enjoy hiking, explore the nearby trails and discover even more stunning landscapes. Before leaving the lake, a visit to Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo is a must. With its terraced gardens and art museum, the villa is the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploration.
