Day 1: Explore Porto Santo’s coastline, landscapes, and island charm
Start your first day at the island’s highlight: the magnificent Porto Santo Beach. Its long stretch of fine golden sand and calm, warm waters are perfect for a morning swim or a relaxing walk along the shoreline. Take time to enjoy the therapeutic properties of the sand, known locally for its mineral benefits.
From the beach, stroll toward the small but lively Vila Baleira, the island’s main town. Explore its peaceful squares, charming whitewashed houses, and local shops. Visit the Christopher Columbus Museum, located in a house where the explorer is believed to have lived—an interesting glimpse into the island’s maritime history.
For lunch, choose a seaside restaurant and try local specialties such as grilled limpets (lapas), bolo do caco with garlic butter, or fresh fish straight from the Atlantic.
In the afternoon, head to Ponta da Calheta, one of the island’s most beautiful viewpoints. Its dramatic rock formations and panoramic coastal scenery make it a perfect place for photos or a peaceful sunset.
Afterward, visit Zimbralinho, a hidden cove with crystal-clear waters surrounded by cliffs. It's ideal for snorkeling or simply enjoying the tranquility of nature.
As evening approaches, return to Vila Baleira for dinner. Enjoy traditional Madeiran dishes such as espetada, black scabbard fish, or passionfruit desserts while taking in the relaxed island atmosphere.
End your night with a gentle walk along the beachfront promenade under the stars.
Day 2: Hills, trails, and Porto Santo’s natural wonders
Start the day with a hike up Pico do Castelo, enjoying panoramic views of the coastline and a historic fort at the summit. Afterwards, relax at the beach or have a drink overlooking the ocean.
Late morning, explore natural sites like Fonte da Areia’s sandstone cliffs or Pedregal’s basalt columns. For lunch, return to Vila Baleira or a beachfront restaurant for fresh seafood and local dishes.
In the afternoon, take a boat or snorkeling tour, or explore the island by bike or buggy, visiting dunes, volcanic viewpoints, and coastal paths.
Take some time to wander through Vila Baleira’s charming streets, browsing local shops or stopping for a coffee at a seaside café. End at Miradouro das Flores for a sunset view, followed by a leisurely dinner by the water.
