Pilot Benefits: More than just a salary

 

If you want to become a pilot, it’s important to understand not only how salaries work but also the extra benefits, career growth opportunities, and the advantages of Luxembourg’s tax system

  • Luxair pilots enjoy additional income through various tax-free supplements:

     

    •  25% for every flight duty hour worked during the night (22:00-06:00).
    •  70% for every crew duty hour worked on Sundays.
    • 100% for every crew duty hour worked on legal holidays.

    Monthly flight allowances vary based on the schedule, typically adding an extra 6-7% to the gross salary, completely tax-free.

  • Luxair provides generous daily allowances, boosting your net monthly income:

     

    • 20€ for duties up to 6 hours.
    • 30€ for duties over 6 hours.
    • 60€ for duties over 12 hours.

    These allowances amount to an average of 350€ net per month

  • Luxair prioritizes work-life balance with:

     

    • Stable rosters published by the 18th of each month for the following month.
    • 10 days off per month, including 4 consecutive days.
    • Home base return for most evenings, with few exceptions. 
    • 31 vacation days pro-rated annually. 

  • As a Luxair pilot, you’ll be part of Luxembourg’s social security system, known for having one of the lowest withholding rates in the EU at about 11%. This includes comprehensive healthcare coverage for you and your immediate family.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. However, the position is based in Luxembourg. Luxair offers relocation packages. If you are a citizen living in the EU or in one of the European Free Trade Association countries, you can become a Luxair pilot. In addition, we do also consider NON-EU applicants.

  • No, English is the common working language, also the entire training is in English. French, German, Luxemburgish, and other languages are just a plus, but not a mandatory requirement.

  • We ask a very good command of the English level, at least a B1 in the CEFRL.

  • No, Luxair pre-finances your entire flight school training expenses up to an amount of 80.000€ AND pre-finances your housing costs with up to 24.000€ for your entire training duration.

  • Luxair does not impose any such restrictions on participants joining the program. However, we recommend that the students focus 100% on their training.

  • We work with a flight school in Germany, Mönchengladbach and another in Spain, near Barcelona

  • The entire training is in English.
